Traditions

A small school keeps its traditions close. These are the events and programs families describe when they talk about Equity.
International Fair
Students and families present the countries of the Equity community — a school where roughly half the students come from outside Guatemala.
Music in the Air & the Spring Program
The orchestra's two concerts, in December and late April, are the year's anchor performances for every grade.
Service projects
Every student and staff member gives hands-on service hours during the year; students plan and carry out projects for the less fortunate in Guatemala.
Student Council
Separate councils for the Elementary and Upper Schools give students a real voice — in the Upper School, an active and empowered student government.
Field trips
The Children's Museum, IRTRA, the zoo, a farm day and an end-of-year pool day are among the trips families mention.
Thanksgiving Feast
More than a holiday: the whole school gathers as a community to give thanks.
We Love to Read Day
A monthly Reading for Relaxation contest encourages reading at home; the principal sends books home as gifts for reading goals and birthdays.
Poetry Slam & Science Fair
Two showcases where students present original work to the school and to families.
Feria Chapina
A celebration of Guatemalan culture, food and tradition.
Destination Imagination
Creative problem-solving teams that compete on open-ended challenges.
Jazz Dance & the after-school program
A year-long after-school activities program for grades one through six with a wide range of topics to explore.
Literary magazine & newspaper
Upper School students publish a literary magazine twice a year and a quarterly student-run newspaper.
Campus
Room to run.
A covered court for assemblies and sport, a gymnasium, a playground, and a campus small enough that every corner is used.
Small buses with GPS tracking bring students from across the city; drivers and monitors stay in contact with the school throughout the route.
